Wikipedia announces ‘Wiki Loves Monuments’ Competition for Year 2015

Wikipedia has recently launched its famous ‘Wiki Loves Monuments’ competition the year 2015. Pakistan has been made part of the photography competition for the second time.

What is ‘Wiki Loves Monuments’ competition?

Wiki Loves Monuments is an annual international photography competition that promotes cultural heritage sites of all participating nations. Wikipedia has been holding this competition since 2010. The event is held during September of each year. The competition is organized by Wikipedia community members of each participating country with help of Wikimedia affiliates. The competition has been termed as the largest photography competition in the world by Guinness World Records.

For Pakistan, Wikipedia Community User is responsible for the competition. It is also the official affiliate of Wikimedia Foundation in Pakistan.

How to take part in ‘Wiki Loves Monuments’ competition?

It is quite simple to take part in this Wikipedia competition. All you need is to register for a Wikipedia account and start uploading photos. The photos should be from one of the mentioned sites. To upload photos, all participants need to visit this link, select the site and press on ‘Upload’ button next to the listed site. Remember, your photos must be original. There should not be any copyrights or watermarks on them. You can send your entries during the whole month of September.

What are the rewards for winning the competition?

The winners of Wikipedia’s ‘Wiki Loves Monuments’ competition will get a scholarship worth 2,000 Euros to attend the international Wikipedia conference in 2016. The top 10 photographs from Pakistan will be selected by Pakistani jury. They will also receive an exclusive Wikipedia gift. Moreover, local jury will also award its own gift.

During the last year’s competition, over 8,750 contestants from 41 countries participated and uploaded over 308,000 photographs. There were over 12,000 photographs from more than 700 Pakistani contestants.
