Yesterday, a trio of vacancies emerged on Uber’s career page centered for Lahore. This caught the attention of many people as it indicates the launch of the service in Pakistan. Uber has now confirmed that it is gearing up for launch in Pakistan.
Uber is a popular transportation app that enables you to get a taxi, private car or rideshare from your mobile phone. It is an American based company operating in 63 countries around the globe. In recent months, several transportation apps including Careem has made its way to the Pakistani market. Considering the positive response they received, Uber has now planned to take a step in the market. This has been confirmed by Shaden Abdellatif, Communications Manager for Middle East and Africa operations in an email statement to ValueWalk.
We can confirm we are currently recruiting for a team in Lahore, and are very excited about launching in Pakistan as we see huge potential in the way we can help people move around their city safely and reliably.
We are also excited about the opportunity for economic empowerment we can bring to the drivers we partner with.
The company has already got its operations in our neighbor India. It recently announced to invest $1 billion in the Indian market. There is a good opportunity for Uber to cash in its expertise in Pakistani market by attracting more and more public. The introduction of next generation mobile services in Pakistan has produced prospects for such startups to take the plunge.
Uber will be initially launching the operations in Lahore i.e. the heart of Pakistan. It means a powerful competitor is on its way to local transport apps like Savaree and Travly. There is no official time for the launch yet. However, we can expect it to get introduced in a month or two.
