State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has now stopped taking SMS for issuance of transaction codes for new currency notes to be used as ‘Eidis’. It means now you need to visit commercial banks to get the new notes. The move has been made due to the large number of SMS that SBP received.
According to State Bank of Pakistan, a total of 277,499 bank account holders applied for the facility, out of which 164,882 have availed the new currency notes from their respective bank branches. These stats indicate the overwhelming response of public for the SMS service.
The SMS service was made available for 150 bank branches covering 28 cities of Pakistan. All you need was to send your CNIC number along with bank branch code to 8877 for Rs. 2 + tax. In reply, you would had received a transaction code and bank branch address from where you can get the new currency notes.
We can expect State Bank of Pakistan to launch this service with more effectiveness next year. SBP will definitely add more bank branches and cities to this service. For the people who have not got new currency notes yet, visit commercial banks and try your luck.
