PTA to ban objectionable websites on mobiles FINALLY

Pakistan Telecom Authority (PTA) has already blocked websites with objectionable and explicit content on desktops. ISPs have been strictly prohibited to restrict access to porn websites. Same instructions from PTA also applies on mobile but unfortunately, telecom operators are not usually strict on these.

After numerous complaints about adult content accessible for mobile users, PTA has finally decided to implement its order strictly. As per reports, major reason behind these websites accessible on mobile is use of VPN. Telecom operators are using VPNs for its internet service that routes traffic from an external IP in the VPN country. Moreover, shamefully, telecom operators are not blocking such websites for business considerations as their data consumption are in GBs.

In reply to this, telecom operators have said that blocking too many websites results in slow internet and browsing speeds. PTA official comment that establishment of Internet Exchange Point (IXP) in Pakistan will help in facilitating the local traffic to remain local and block the objectionable websites.

Now, PTA may ask telecom operators to ensure restriction of adult content on their 3G/4G networks. Otherwise, they may face heavy fines on violation.
