LG lifts covers off the G4 smartphone, comes with bright camera and leather backs

The wait is finally over! The big gun of LG is finally in the market. LG has unveiled its latest flagship i.e. G4 smartphone. As expected, the handset is going to give competition to rivals i.e. Samsung Galaxy S6, Apple iPhone 6/6 Plus and HTC One M9. The highlights of LG G4 are improved super bright camera, leather backs and durable display. Here, we are going to discuss every nook of this powerful flagship.

LG G4 Details and Specifications:

Dimensions & Design:

LG G4 features a sleek and slim design. The dimensions are 148.9 x 76.1 x 9.8 mm. It weighs 155g. The design is similar to that of LG G3. The G4 handset comes with leather back that gives grace and unique feel. There are variety of color options in leather backs. This includes maroon, black, yellow, brown, orange and more. You can easily change them according to your choice. According to LG, the leather backs are unique in its artifact. Each cover is handcrafted and has taken three months of continuous efforts to deliver the extraordinary look.

Display:

LG G4 comes with 5.5-inches IPS LCD display with 1440 x 2560 pixels. It has about 538 ppi pixel density. The screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The size and resolution are similar to the last year’s phone. However, G4 makes use of Quantum IPS panel that gives 25% brighter, 50% better contrast and 20% better colorful accuracy. The impressive display is 11% more power efficient. Considering its significance, LG has made the display durable by giving it a slight curve. The curve is so slight that you hardly feels it. According to LG, the curve makes the display 20% less likely to break than the flat LG G3.

Camera:

With LG G3, the company debuted camera with laser auto-focus in smartphones. In G4, all the camera features are upgraded to give you better results. LG G4 camera comes with a large 16-megapixel sensor, bright f/1.8 aperture, optical image stabilization 2.0 and dual LED flash. The bright aperture and OIS 2.0 enables more light to pass through hence delivering remarkable results in low-lightning situations. The laser auto-focus system is same in G4. G4 camera has also got a new color spectrum sensor. This gives more accurate colors and white balance in different lightning conditions. LG has put equal effort towards its software side. LG’s camera app now gives extensive manual controls that includes shutter speed, white balance, ISO and RAW image capture. The secondary camera is 8 MP capable of 1080p capture, tailored made for selfies.

Hardware:

LG G4 comprises of Qualcomm MSM8992 Snapdragon 808 chipset. Instead of latest Snapdragon 810 chipset, LG has used the previous one as it is more power efficient with almost matching results. The 64-bit chipset features dual-core 1.8 GHz Cortex-A57 & quad-core 1.44 GHz Cortex-A53 processor. Its GPU is Adreno 418. It comes with 3 GB RAM.

Software:

LG G4 runs on latest Android 5.1 Lollipop with LG’s custom user interface i.e. Optimus UX 4.0 UI. As announced earlier, LG has also removed all the superfluous apps. The new G4 smartphone includes only Google Chrome browser instead of two browsers. The apps like Gallery and Music also features Google Drive integration. LG will be giving 100 GB of free Drive storage for two years alongside LG G4.

Storage:

The internal storage of the handset is 32 GB. The handset includes a microSD card slot upto 128 GB. This storage along with Google Drive is sufficient enough for your audios, documents, pictures and videos.

Connectivity and Sensors:

LG G4 is a single SIM phone. It supports 2G, 3G and 4G. Here are the related bands:

  • 2G (GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900)
  • 3G (HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100)
  • 4G (LTE 800 / 900 / 1800 / 2100)

The other connectivity options include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, Infrared and NFC. According to LG, the GPS sensor is twice as accurate as other smartphones.

Battery:

LG has got large battery i.e. 3,000 mAh. It does not support Qualcomm QuickCharge support and wireless charging. This is definitely a significant con of the handset. You can charge wireless but via a dedicated cover. However, the battery delivers good timings due to LG focus on power efficiency.
