Haier Pakistan aims to manufacture smartphones locally

Yesterday, we told you about Haier Pakistan first laptop assembly plant in the country. The group is now determined to manufacture 150,000 laptop units by the end of the year 2016. Here, we are going to bring you another interesting story. Haier Pakistan is also in plans to open a smartphone manufacturing plant in the country.

Till today, there is no smartphone manufacturing plant in Pakistan. Most of the smartphones in Pakistan are assembled and manufactured in China and other countries. It seems like Haier Pakistan is going to make a move and change things. Recently, a delegation of Haier Group led the CEO Haier Mobile Mr. Zeeshan Qureshi has met Anusha Rehman, Minister of State for IT and Telecom in this regard.

Haier Pakistan expressed their thoughts of establishing a smartphone manufacturing plant in the country considering the increased usage and demands for smartphones. They explained that they don’t want to import smartphones and desire to manufacture them locally. They were of the view that this will result in low cost of smartphones and can revolutionize the local market of smartphones.

Anusha Rehman, in response, appraised the idea and ensured the govt. sovereignty on this issue. She stated that there is dire need of such a plant in Pakistan considering its over 200 million population. She also warranted special incentives including tax holidays or relaxations in this regard. Moreover, she said that this will surely bring opportunities for Pakistani labor and workforce.

A lot of credit should be given to Haier Pakistan for its efforts. Haier Pakistan is at number 2 in terms of market shares for electronic appliances. Hopefully, this move will earned them the top spot in the market of smartphones too. Best of luck, guys!
