Google brings Street View Maps of Pakistan’s historic sites

Pakistan is, no doubt, a country full of cultural heritage. Hundreds of historic monuments are found in Pakistan i.e. Taxila, Harappa, Mohenjo-daro, Rohtas fort, Shalimar Gardens and other such places. Considering this unique cultural legacy, Google has now brought exclusive street view maps highlighting and promoting the cultural sites of Pakistan.

A total of four hundred and sixty seven (467) landmarks representing civilizations over 5,000 years old have been added in these street view maps. These landmarks and other clues give surety that the region has witnessed Aryan, Buddhist, Muslim, Hindu and Christians reigns. Google has completed the project in collaboration with a number of local non-profit organizations. These organizations are struggling to preserve the cultural legacy of Pakistan. These includes the Citizens Archive of Pakistan (CAP), Mohatta Palace Museum, Heritage Foundation Pakistan and others.

The available landmarks includes ancient relics, paintings, old coins and monuments. You can check out the street view maps of Pakistan’s historic sites here.

This is not for the first time that Google has made such an effort. Back in 2012, Google had signed an agreement with the Punjab government to capture historical monuments in the province. Some work has been done and we can hope more street view maps of Pakistan coming soon.
